Cruella becomes President of the RNIB

Victoria Smurfit

By Fiona Musgrove.

Before you start hiding your beautiful Guide Dogs, this was one of the many roles played by Irish born actor Victoria Smurfit, who was recently announced as the new RNIB’s President. She has a personal connection to the RNIB, after her daughter Evie, now aged 21, was diagnosed with Stargardt’s Macular Dystrophy as a child. Additionly, Smurfit’s father, Dr Dermot Smurfit, is also an RNIB vice president.

Amongst her roles Victoria will support the RNIB’s work to deliver progress across its five impact areas: eye health and eye care, skills and tools for life, getting around, employment, and education.

This decision followed their current presidentDame Gail Ronson DBE, stepping down after 14 years. It is yet another significant change in the RNIB within the past year which sees Matt Stringers 7 year position as CEO awarded to Simon Antrobus, formerly fromBBC Children in Need.
